EA set to release Tetris Blitz for Android this Spring
Sometimes it’s great to be a child of the 80s. EA has just announced that they will release the world’s first “freemium” Tetris title onto Google Play this Spring in the form of Tetris Blitz.
As the name implies Tetris Blitz isn’t your average Tetris game. It’s basically Tetris on crack as it only gives you two minutes to get as many points as you can. You’ll still clear blocks in the same way you’re used to, but a “Frenzy” mode has been added that ads multipliers and power-ups to spice things up a bit. Electronic Arts has said they’ll “refresh” the power-ups on a weekly basis to keep things fresh and exciting.
I’m a huge fan of the old school Tetris and wore a couple of the Gameboy cartridges out back in the day. I also plunked down 3 bucks for EA’s Tetris for Android. Am I excited for a new Tetris game? Oh yeah, but that excitement started dwindling when I saw the word “Freemium.” I’m holding out hope that EA won’t overdo the whole IAP thing, but we’ll just have to wait and see. We’ll let you know as soon as Tetris Frenzy hits Google Play.
