News of the Week – ASUS Padfone, iPad HD and Samsungs Galaxy S III
Last year was an awesome year to be an Android user; we saw a lot of cool devices and the Samsung Galaxy S II was far and away the best of the bunch in most of our minds. 2012 is flying by and as we get closer to summer the mobile wars are starting to heat up and we’re slowly getting some information on 2012’s big releases.
I usually don’t mention apple, but it’s hard to forget the big announcement coming tomorrow that most of us expect to be the unveiling of the iPad 3 or iPad HD if you will. People are getting excited, stores will be packed, and hipsters everywhere are losing sleep in anticipation of Apple’s big day. Well, we’re Android fans and while we will admit that the iPad’s are definitely cool… the ASUS Padfone is much, much cooler. If you’ve been under a rock for the past year, the Padfone is a phone/tablet combo and it “should” change the way we look at and use our mobile devices if ASUS pulls things off without a hitch. There’s little doubt they’ll probably be another 20 tablet releases on the Android side of things this year, but the ASUS Padfone and the iPad HD look to be two early contenders for Tablet of the Year.
Speaking of years end rewards, Samsung picked up a nice one last week when they snagged phone of the year at MWC 2012 for the awesomeness that is the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Galaxy S III rumors have already started flying as there were early reports that it would be unveiled at the MWC last week (it wasn’t) and then there were claims that it would be out in April which Samsung has denied. There is no real “official” word on this phone yet, but we do know that it will be out sometime this year. Even with the new one in the works, the Samsung Galaxy II is certainly nothing to scoff at and depending on your carrier or upgrade plan you still may want to pick one up. There are some great deals going around on the Galaxy S II right now; if you’re in the US you can find deals all around the web, and if you’re from across the pond you can get bargains at sites like O2
Whether you’re an ASUS fan, a Samsung guy or one of those unfortunate people still holding on to their Apple, it’s shaping up to be a great year for the mobile industry and we’re just as excited as the rest of you to see what’s coming up next. We won’t be covering the iPad unveil tomorrow, but we will keep you up to date with the latest and greatest from the wild world of Android.
